I'd suspect the connector too, though it wouldn't hurt to try another round of alcohol through the keyboard for good measure. You might also try taking a small brush, dipping it in alcohol and working at the keyboard ribbon connector.

Of course, the USB keyboard should work fine if that setup works OK for your purposes.

The keyboard did work before I took it apart. So, getting alcohol into the connection may not have done anything. I just think I screwed it up somehow. It just never seemed to slip back into the slot far enough. It's difficult to handle that ribbon with the KB there tilted so you can get at it. Besides I have large hands and fingers (which, BTW don't work very well) which was a hindrance.

Thanks for the alcohol suggestion. The USB keyboard works great. It takes some getting used to.

I suspect you may have pulled the keyboard ribbon out without first loosening whatever little plastic fastening device is used on your laptop.

if you can figure out how to (carefully) open up the connector device, you can probably slide the ribbon back in correctly and then refasten.

If you haven't already, try searching youtube for a video on how to disassemble or remove the keyboard on your exact laptop model. Seeing how they open that connector is definitely worth more than 1000 words on the subject.

I did watch a video. The housing has a bar that crosses over the ribbon and has a pin at both ends. The bar gets slid back to the end of the pins and the ribbon comes out. To install, the ribbon goes in, and the bar is moved towards the housing and locks down the ribbon. Seems simple enough. I'm thinking that it could be that the ribbon didn't go in far enough, or the keyboard just died.

Anyway, both my wife and I tried it several times with no success. Maybe when the disgust wears off, I may try again. Thanks for the help.

            Might try replacing keyboard

My wife did same thing to my laptop and I bought a cheap replacement keyboard on ebay for a few bucks...shipping cost more than the keyboard...ending up being about 25 bucks. ONly problem is the one i bought is white and the old one was black so it looks funny but it functions great. Make sure you get the exact same part number so that it fits.
