The lights have dimmed in Cooperstown

But tonight there will be 2 new stars in the heavens.

I just read the news of the passing of legendary and colorful Orioles manager Earl Weaver and, just hours later, the loss of Stan 'the Man' Musial.

Musial was one of the generation of baseball players that were worthy of the terms idol or hero, a man that could be looked up to by the youth of his day.

Weaver was fun to watch. Who was the Ump who would throw him out when he brought out the lineup card? Stan the Man what can you say? The are very few players now who can match the character of the players from that era.

The umpire that relished in throwing Weaver out of games was Dale Ford - he lives in the adjoining county. Teddy Valentine (college basketball referee) is trying his best to emulate Dale. He may not be right but he will be seen.

Stan the Man - as a kid I bought many baseball packs (with the lousy gum) dying to get his card No such luck. Great player, added much to the game w/o drugs! Yep, new star in the sky.
We all have to go sometime, just not yet!
