    Electronic Cigarettes

Anyone have any experience with electronic cigarettes. Trying to convince my brother to quit and for xmas I thought I'd get him one. Anyone know of a good brand and model? Perhaps recommend a starter package?

My son tried them years ago and today smokes as much as ever. Unless the persons mind is fully made up to quit, nothing else will work. My wife was hypnotized, took smoke enders classes, etc.. She finally decided it was time after she developed COPD and was put on oxygen. Her health made up her mind for her. Hopefully your brother is ready to quit on his own.

My wife did the same thing with hypnosis. That didn't work. What did work was cold turkey. With today's prices, it's a very expensive habit...almost as expensive as woodworking.

I've never smoked, but I use them as smoke generators to smoke test auto engines.

Various companies offer them free, in the hope you may buy more, and are often posted on reddit. For example:

Might be a no-cost way for him to try them before investing a lot of money.

I have been using them for over a year, it helped stop a pack a day habit. Still have a occasional cigar in the shop. You can't go wrong with either of these suppliers.

I use them on long distance flights. I have an extra battery and a USB charger. You should also note the brand your brother smokes so you can match the nicotine content. I know people who have used them to assist them in guitting. Far more users, doctors, teachers, pilots, etc. use them when in "no smoking" areas. Stewardesses (sorry "flight attendants") recognize them for what they are and I've never been hassled on a plane, in a terminal or restaurant.

Cigarettes are like booze in that you have to want to quit for vapor cigarette to be of help. I use them so that I can enjoy a shot of nicotine after dining in a restaurant, at the movies (I really do love nicotine, not the additives in cigarettes), and any number of other places where smoking is prohibited. It's a conundrum for government, they get addicted to the taxes while trying to eradicate the source of the taxes.

Can't quit smoking as the taxes on cigarettes are usually touted as being "for the children." I certainly do not want any children's program to suffer because I selfishly quit smoking. I suppose I could just buy them and throw them in the garbage, but that seems so wasteful and probably not good for the landfill (aka: the dump).

Seriously, it's the taxes that make me think quitting is a good idea as I already give enough money to the government. I suspect I'll suck it up and go to the vapor battery at the first of the year.

My son used a kit that gradually lowered the nicotine content. He quit in a couple of weeks, two years ago.
