    New 'Toy'

I have been wanting for a 1911 .45 for a long time and had decided on a repro made by Auto Ordnance. AO bought the rights to (or the company?) Thompson Automatic Arms and produce several of the 'Tommy' guns, although they are now semi-auto. Their 1911 is one of the lower priced and is made in the USA.

When they introduced their 1911 PKZ .45 it got mixed reviews, most saying it needed extensive work to be relaible. In 1999, Kahr Ind took them over and made major improvements to the entire line. The only bad hit now is the magazine. It has a rounded follower and there are complaints that it will cause feed problems on anything other than Ball ammo. Simple solution offered was to replace the stock magazine with some with the original design.

I stopped in Cabela's a Saturday and they had 2 in stock for the first time in over a year. I put one on hold and talked to the wife. She said to go for it. Looking on line, I found I could beat the $569 price tag by as much as $80 and decided to hold off and have one shipped to a mail customer of mine that has his FFL.

I had to go to north Austin yesterday to pick up some beds and decided to check out the Saxet Gun Show on the way home. (Never been to one before, but this won't be the last time.) Found one dealer that had the AO 1911 on display with a marked price of $487. I walked out the door with it for $532.45 after taxes and picked up 2 near perfect condition magazines for another $30. Still slightly under Cabela's price before taxes. I like the fact that it is a 2011 model with the anniversary marking.

Hope to get a back stop made today and put a few rounds through the barrel today or tomorrow!

Nice find and a great price. Gun shows here used to be a "no wait". It's been a while since I've been to one. What's the "waiting" laws in Texas?

That thing is gorgeous. Have you fired it? Are you able to legally discharge on your property? Or are you required to use a range?

Nice 1911 Don,I too have been busy and have fired both of my newest aquisitions recently a 1944 No5 Enfield Jungle Carbine as well as a new DPMS AR15. Sometime later today possibly if my friend/owner of my local gunshop gets back from deer huntin in Kentucky I will also be p/u a Chinese SKS and will provide those pics as well, All I'm needin now to finish my collection of vintage WWII rifles will be another Enfield MK-I a,an M-1 and M-14, Those 3 will prolly set me back a pretty penny tho. One things for sure,I won't be losing money on any of these as prices on guns as well as ammo appear to be rising

          Nice find.

My son bought a Para Ordinance 45 the first time Obama got elected. I think it holds 14 rounds, it is a double stack magazine. His hands are big enough to handle it but mine are bigger. I need to get him to take us to the range for me to make sure .

LOL, I still fail to see the correlation that folks use when purchasing firearms for huntin or self-defense that has anything to do with whose elected. If anything he was a godsend to gun dealers everywhere and the usual overhyping and fear mongering prevailed,LOL

Grats Pappy, that is a sweet model. I hope you find it to be accurate and comfortable to shoot.

I shoot a lot with friends at the range (here in Colorado, we have a few of them). The 1911 is hands-down, the best fit for my hands.

I've got my eyes on a Colt Government Series 70.

My neighbor does custom 1911s -----

Been saving (and will continue to do so) for awhile for one from him!

I think I'll have one within - oh about 20 years.

See if I can cover the questions.

No wait in Texas that I know of unless there is a delay on the background check for soem reason.

Hasn't been fired yet. Hopefully tomorrow. I am in the county so I can shoot on my property. The railroad tracks provide about an 8' back berm but I want to build a double 2x target mount about 3'-4' square.

Purchase had nothing to to with politics. (Maybe a little, but that discussion would be against forum rules) Mostly just happened that the money and the deal to come along at the same time after the elections.
