I have been wanting for a 1911 .45 for a long time and had decided on a repro made by Auto Ordnance. AO bought the rights to (or the company?) Thompson Automatic Arms and produce several of the 'Tommy' guns, although they are now semi-auto. Their 1911 is one of the lower priced and is made in the USA.
When they introduced their 1911 PKZ .45 it got mixed reviews, most saying it needed extensive work to be relaible. In 1999, Kahr Ind took them over and made major improvements to the entire line. The only bad hit now is the magazine. It has a rounded follower and there are complaints that it will cause feed problems on anything other than Ball ammo. Simple solution offered was to replace the stock magazine with some with the original design.
I stopped in Cabela's a Saturday and they had 2 in stock for the first time in over a year. I put one on hold and talked to the wife. She said to go for it. Looking on line, I found I could beat the $569 price tag by as much as $80 and decided to hold off and have one shipped to a mail customer of mine that has his FFL.
I had to go to north Austin yesterday to pick up some beds and decided to check out the Saxet Gun Show on the way home. (Never been to one before, but this won't be the last time.) Found one dealer that had the AO 1911 on display with a marked price of $487. I walked out the door with it for $532.45 after taxes and picked up 2 near perfect condition magazines for another $30. Still slightly under Cabela's price before taxes. I like the fact that it is a 2011 model with the anniversary marking.
In accordance with forum rules, "No Pics - Didn't Happen", I submit the following....

Hope to get a back stop made today and put a few rounds through the barrel today or tomorrow!
