    The Studley Workbench vise.

Working an exhausting week, but I did get an interesting email today Don Williams, the Senior furniture Conservator at The Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute, and author of a long awaited (to me) book about the the Studley Toolchest. He was inquiring about an an old vise I have which is very similar to the ones Studley had on his bench. I mentioned it on the Lost Art Press forever ago, and he got wind of that.

I must note that I have been pining for this book, and really want to invest in a leather edition if they release them.

Through a series of emails, I have been informed by Don that he would like to perhaps inspect my vise in person, to use as some reference for a project he is doing for the book.

I am going to have my wife (the actual professional photographer) take some pictures to send to him, and figure out the logistics of how he can see it in person. Kind of exciting!

Cool, be sure to ask him how the book is going.

Did you ask your vise if it is OK for someone else to come over and fondle it?

The look my wife just gave me when I told her someone was going to be fondling my vise was priceless.
I am going to meet with him next week, I will ask what I can disclose about the book, and his plans for my vise...

You never tell the wife when another man fondles your vice. What happens in the shop stays in the shop....
