    The Fires in our county

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...=photo_comment

I am not sure if this will work or not. I wanted to share a picture that I took last night on my walk. Across the hills is not cloud cover that is smoke. There are some areas of our county and town that are being evacuated, once again. This is the worst year for fires that I can remember and I have lived here for 35 years (moving away for 5). Please pray for the safety of everyone here fighting these fires for us and those who are being evacuated that their homes are saved.

The air quality around our valley is very unhealthy right now and tough for people with health issues also. I pray for a large rain storm, with no lightning, to hit us for a few days.
Mrs. Wallnut a.k.a (the head nut).

I believe everyone on this site stays united in the thoughts and prayers for the safety of all and for a safe outcome for everyone from these fires.

We are praying. Hoping for the best.

I was a volunteer and fought the brush fires in 78-80 on the back side of Rye Grass.
12 hours on a combine and 12 hours on a truck with a hose in my hand.

I'm on FB, send me a request and I'll be happy to add both of you!

Dal Farnworth is the FB name.

Link to fire map. The back story is a on September 8th a lightning storm went through the area with no rain and we had 3000+ lightning strikes in the region during the storm. This has been a dryer than normal year with higher and more frequent winds leading to prime fire conditions. The logging industry dying has not helped, nor has less firewood cutting than in decades past. A good side to this is that elk will likely benefit from the fires with better and more abundant feed in the summer and fall for years to come.

Sad to hear. Back in about 1980 a friend and I harvested firewood and fence posts out of the table mountain complex.
Most of that wood was bug kill. We worked up in that area until Mt. St. Helens went off and since we lived in Quincy, (directly in the path of the ash), we were suddenly out of business.

My brother lives over the hill from you guys in Wennatchee it was so bad last week they took off for the weekend and went over to Seatle to visit thier doughter and some fresh air.

He said when he unpacked his clothes in seatle that he took out of his closet at home they smelled like he had been sitting around a campfire.

Hope you all get through this ok,

            Bud

Good pic showing the magnitude of the problem.

I was wondering how close the fires were to you folks. Here on the west side of the mountains there is enough smoke in the air for it to look like a light fog and the smell of burning wood is in the air. We haven't been able to see Mt Rainer for several days. I have allergies and it's affecting me here, I can't begin to imagine how it is living in the thick of it.

Hope the fires don't get too close.

This morning getting up I look outside and see almost like a layer or haze of "fog" well it dawns on me that it isn't fog it is smoke. And you can smell it also. It is one of those days where I wish I could travel some where else for a little while and have some fresh air.

Bill sorry to hear that you are having problems. There are quite a few that are. We are not close enough to worry at all but I know people in and around the area. Just so smokey right now and I don't want to walk because of it. We will keep you updated.

                      Yeow! Not a good situation.

We have fires up here in the Sierra from time to time and I always worry about them during the summer, especially when we're not around to defend our home. Five years ago a "small" fire took out a few acres and five homes less than 200 yards from where we live now. There's been a concerted effort since then to thin the surrounding forests and get rid of dead trees but it's still worrisome in summer.

Nothing but bad. I thought I would post this picture of what kind of sunrises we have been getting out here on the Olympic Peninsula from your smoke.

Thanks for the picture. I know that there have been some pretty amazing photos going around from our area that are great. It is funny how something so terrible (fire) can make some great pictures.
