That is a reality check, and yes, very true. Watching the game seems to have a calming effect, and I get to practice my whispering. BTW, pictures are great.
figured out it'll be 18 holes compared to any other numberical figure.)
I now have a different perspective on golf. And the charities they give is 2 times more than the Nfl. Thanks for sharing an interesting site.
I agree that many of the things said are true, but to be fair, the author was obviously a golf fanatic. As I watched, a few thoughts come to mind. For the record, I really don't care about any professsional sport.
1. Golfers have to "earn" their pay. True, but I've never heard of a golfer who was at risk of serious or permanent injury from one bad hit like the NFL
2. Golf originated as one of the most sexist sports there was hence GOLF. Gentleman only, ladies forbidden
3. Pro Golfers aren't interviewed 1/2 naked. Well, the reporters don't go in the clubhouse after a golf match AND reporters do make the choice to enter other clubhouses. Moot point to me.
4. Tiger woods/Barry Bonds. Different technologies. Leather & cork on wood vs. Metal alloy on rubber wound core with ridid cover. Drop a steel ball bearing on a steel plate and it will bounce higher than a rubber ball on a wooden floor.
5. Golfers get no per diem or charter flights. I'm sure they get something from sponsors that helps to offset.
6. You can't make 9MM a year and fail 70% of the time like in baseball. True, but then again, hitting a round ball with a round bat while the ball is moving at 95mph thrown with the intention of making you miss with 50,000 people heckling/cheering is a little different that hitting a stationery ball in silence. Not saying that either is easier or harder, just pointing out.
7. The slideshow notes that golfers are all gentleman and truly happy to meet fans and implies that they are stand up citizens. Yep they are, just ask Tiger---he's got about 20 female "fans" that will testify to that....lol. Plus if I remember, Jack Nicklaus was notorious for being rude to the fans as was Fred Couples for a while. At least they have John Daly to fall back on for image. LOL
8. You can watch a major golf match in person for $20-$30. According to the Master's web site, tickets start @ $680 for opening day and go up.
9. People who don't even play golf watch it in person and on TV. Really? I don't know anyone who doesn't play golf that watches it on TV or goes in person, do you? I don't even remember the last time I saw golf on TV.
10. Finally, the 18 hole/shot analogy is actually interesting and cute, but then again, if you are drinking an entire bottle of whiskey evertime you play, how is that different from guzzling beer during a sporting event. Seems to me like you'd end up drunk at the end of the game either way.
Don't get me wrong, the pictures are great and there are some potential truths in the slideshow but to present golf as the perfect sport or at least one that is above all others a little nearsighted. As I said, I personally don't care for any professional sports on the basis that all of them are overpaid in my opinion. I played golf on the team back in HS actually. At the end of the day, I'll sum it up with words from my grandfather. "Golf---it's just a bunch of fellas hitting a ball around a pasture with a stick and chasing after it.......I think I'll pass."

**All meant in fun
I might watch golf on TV if they spice up the game a bit. When they tee off, they would be required to run after the ball becomes airborne, and then hit it again before it lands on the ground.
Thereis absolutely nothing with golf or playing golf, it's the goofballs who try present it from a nearsighted viewpoint that put it in the crosshairs, not the game itself.
