    Wow, this takes me back…

I never got really proficient, but I could do a passable set of drawings for theatrical design. In fact, the first woodworking project I ever made was a "drafting" table. I was given a drafting machine, and I can use it, but not comfortably as I'm left-handed. Have you checked the price on a left-handed drafting machine?

Never got used to using the computer, either. And I use actual wooden pencils (prismacolor).

Here are a couple of leadholders.

The "red" one is my first and certainly most used. I bought it in 1966 when I started night school and used it extensively doing layouts on the drawing board up until the early 90's when I finally jumped to the computer. Still did many things after that, but up to that time, that red leadholder did hundreds of illustrations.

The "blue" was purchased in the late 70's, simply cause the old red one was looking a little shabby. But like some NEW tools, it never felt quite right in the hand, so it stayed in the drawer and I continued with the red.

The "black" Pentel is nice, but lead is too thin for drawing, at least the way I like. Good for taking notes or figuring things out nest to the computer, but that's about it.

The "lead" in the background (blue boxes) are Staedtler -Mars Lumograph leads that came a dozen to the small plastic box and were available in multiple softnesses. I liked to do layouts in 5H, as they were hard and didn't smear like the soft "F" and "HB" leads.
