    Another New Toy

I haven't done much shooting in years but have started again. I had forgotten how much fun it was to punch holes in paper. I have been shooting my 9mm and love it but it gets expensive in a hurry so I picked up a .22 Ruger MKIII 22/45. Haven't been able to get out and shoot it yet due to crummy weather.
The first picture is as it came out of the box the others are after I dressed it up a bit.

Sweet Dick, did you make the handgrip yourself? Scope on that caliber? Let me know how that works out when you make it to the range. I always figured the drop was too much on .22 to do anymore than 50yds, wind too..

ROFL, I use my 22. Mag to hunt Coyote with here in Ga. and used to shoot 100 yrds with a Savage/Anshultz in HS on the rifle team with peeps and could group inside 2 inches at that range, 50 yrds I was inside 1 inch, 25 yrds inside 1/2 inch, the bigger they are the harder they fall. I now shoot a 7.62 x 54R Flat trajectory and accurate enough to shoot the bottom out of a can a corn at the range with targets at 100-200-300 yards. Don't discount the 22. its a lot more accurate than folks think, just lack stopping power unless its a mag.Nice pistol Dick, is that barrel threaded? Like the grips as well

It is a threaded barrel, probably will never add a suppressor though.
Grips are from Majestic Arms and beautifully made.
The scope is a Buschnell Red Dot, no magnification.

Nice Dick! Don't overlook CCI standard velocity if you are looking to shoot small groups. Most shooters and pistols/ rifles can not distinguish a difference between that and green label or many of the other high dollar fodder.

Dick,Lemme know how it shoots. I have wanted a bull barrel like that for yrs and never could see paying the 200+ dollars they want for them, but now I really like shooting with a group of guys that mainly shoot the larger vintage rifles in competition here as well as the 22 handguns which I don't have anymore and I am considering the Ruger w/bull barrel for some comp. shooting. Most of the guys swear by them and I have shot theirs one or more times. I mainly shoot 40. and 45. cal in pistol competition now, but its getting expensive unless I take up reloading

Apples to oranges Tommy. I was commenting on a pistol shooting .22LR
              1. Your talking about a magnum round, OP is not
              2. Your Savage/Anshultz rifle probably costs now about 3-4 times Dick's pistol and is geared towards competition shooting.

I own and have shot .22 rifles but not pistol. I am not discounting it, just aware of its limitations in rifle. LOL

Haven't shot a .22 pistol in years. I did pick up a Stevens .22 rifle a while back. Identical to the rifle I learned to shoot with. Coudn't resist when I saw a clean one on the used rack at Cabela's.

Here in Colorado, we have plenty of opportunities to shoot at the community range, maintained by the Lions' Club.

I make good use of a few family heirlooms:
                  - Winchester Model 67 (22 LR)
                  - Winchester Model 70 (30-06)
                  - Winchester Model 12 (12 ga)
                  - Ruger Single Six (22 LR)

The 22LRs are fun to shoot. You can shoot for hours and spend dimes. The Model 12 shoots better than far more expensive models that I've tried. I wish the Model 70 was cheaper to shoot. Hitting a target spot on at 150-200 yds is fun.

My big dilemma - I have 3 sons and a daughter ---- not sure how I'll divy these out in my will.

Well your right about 1 thing the limitations of the round, the S/A I had in HS then cost $300+ dollas as I recall (took a lot of newspaper delivery money), but it was still a 22 LR which whether shot from a pistol or rifle carrys almost the same velocity at the muzzle in most case's. I had not to long ago purchased 1 of these, http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/87903 , for a small handgun to carry in the woods, Its capable of shooting both rounds with a cylinder change and I traded it for a new tiller, what I found was that regardless of the round chambered the accuracy at 50 yrds was the same only difference I could find was 1 got there faster than the other.Cylinder change was simple I and would highly recommend that pistol and may buy another, but since at the time I had purchased mine for $129 they have gone up in price, I still came out ahead as the tiller I got in trade was well worth $450. The pistols in the lower left and well worth the money Bud's is asking now for it. I would prefer an automatic tho I have found revolvers tend to be more accurate. I think however I will purchase a BB Ruger like Dicks as well as getting another of those revolvers Both rifles are the ones I shoot in competition the revered Mosin Nagants in 7.62 x 54r caliber tho highly modified and a 40. cal Hi Point I shoot also, the collection only keeps growing it seemsBut your right about the limitations of the round I like the 22. cal tho as it is cheaper to shoot.
