COSTCO And Empty Nesters

The Mango Peach Salsa and cakes keep us coming back. I am not a big fan of cake, but Costco cakes are worth the membership price.

We have 3 kids at home, so there is lots of stuff we buy there and usually makes it worth it for us. We get a lot for family get togethers and cookouts, also, so it is worth it for us. We also buy our gas there.

We became a member shortly after Thomas was born. The savings on the coffee we drink, meat, cheese, chewing gum (I gave up tobacco a coulple years ago), spices, Advil, and suppliments not only pays the annual fee but also justifies the cost of driving 80+ miles round trip to shop there. IN two years we could be 2/3 empty nesters and we'll have to reassess the savings. If we lived closer I think the savings would still justify the cost without the meat. Cheese we could repackage. With kids out of the picture... 12+ years from now who knows. Many of their grocery items are far better priced than supermarkets on a per unit basis. The question becomes first do you have the room and secondly will you use the quantity before it goes bad. Our savings on most food we buy at Costco is 30% less than the supermarkets.

There's just LOML and myself, but we have two German Shepherds, and three cats, plus some miscellaneous aquariums.

We buy mostly paper towels, TP, dog biscuits, meats, fruit juices, and are happy with their quality. You do need storage space for the bulk items.

LOML and I are empty nesters too,

but we live in the swamp and to Sam's or to Costco it's at least a 70 miles round trip to either store. We gave up our Sam's card years ago. There was talk of a Costco opening up on I-4 a while back, but that fell through. If only they were closer...

Don't have Cosco, but Sam's is about the same. Membership for 2 is $45 and I make that back on tissue, paper towels, TP, and gas.

Just two of us, retired and in our 70's but we live in a rural corner of a fairly rural county in VA. (Read that as beyond cell service, hard wired internet, and cable). We do have a couple of local stores, Food Lion, and Wal Mart. Wife is a fussy shopper and will not buy meat (prepackaged, brined and gassed) and produce from Wal-Mart. The Food Lions are small and limited in selection. We make a 40 mile one way run to a nearby city about once a month to load up and Costco is a major part of that. We feel the meat is superior to the local stores, particularly the pork. Paper products by the bale, detergent by the jug, office supplies. For us it works.

We've had a COSTCO membership for almost 5 years. Their meat section is awesome and so as their alcohol section. They have the cheapest price on gas (yes the COSTCO's here have gas stations and auto service section). We save a lot on diapers, formulas and wet wipes for the kids. We buy our cereal, nut bars, and coffee pods there. We bought our outdoor furniture from them. They have nice prices on dress shirts and polo shirts there as well. My 4 year old daughter loves trying the samplers. Also, they have a food court where you can buy hotdog sandwhich and soda for less than two bucks. Their Pizza is okay. Love the frosty.

We had Sams club before but after realizing that I was paying more to shop at Sam's club rather than buying it at Walmart, I immediately canceled our membership.

There was a special on Costco recently. It really seemed like it's a great place to shop, and work. I don't know how fair it was, but I wanted to get a membership after watching it.

Just two of us. LOML does all the shopping. Nearest Costco is 45 miles away in Reno. we buy gas, some staples, the famous roasted chicken, and occasionally other stuff. I should look into their tire prices because I need a new set for the truck.

The only thing I don't like is the long checkout lines.
