For work you've done requiring that many hours, and for large sums of money, posting pictures would be very interesting. WIP pictures would be even better. Looking forward to them.I've been both - made period reproductions "professionally" for a few years - but found I like it better as a hobby.
It wasn't much fun trying to meet a deadline, and there aren't that many customers willing to pay fair rates for handwork. When you consider that something like a Federal style secretary takes in the range of 1,000 hours to complete, it has to sell for more than $100K (in today's dollars) and there aren't that many clients willing or able to pay that.

I consider myself part hobbyist, part pro. Since having 3 kids, I've really done a lot of kid-type work. Mainly toys and toy storage. I've been selling some of the toys I make on Etsy. Currently I'm working on a wooden shopping cart I posted about here some time ago. I haven't done many, but with twin 7 mo old boys at home, woodworking time doesn't come easily. On my Etsy account I explain to all would-be customers that each item is made directly for them upon order. This allows me to try to turn this hobby into something more, but on my schedule.Comment
