The wife has been driving a Jeep Cherokee with a lift on the back for several years. It is so hard for her to load the chair and tie it down that she really can't go anywhere alone.
We have been talking about getting her a mini van for a while, but even 2001 - 2003 vans are being advertised at 13k - 15k and most of those have 150,000 or more on the odometer.
I missed out on a 2001 Grand Caravan a couple of weeks ago. I emailed the seller about it. By the time she responded that it was consigned to a dealer and I contaqcted them, it was sold. I was looking at one from another company that was $4995 but it seemed to have a lot of problems (supposedly all cosmetic), and high mileage.
The company that had the '01 had a '99 Ford Windstar on consignment at their Ft Worth location with a full IMS conversion that includes power door and ramp, lowered floor, auto kneel, and back up sensors. The odometer was just under 48,000. The conversion, I was told was about $16k at the time. The equivalent conversion today carries a price tag of around $25k. That doesn't include the cost of the van, just the conversion.
The family was asking $12,000 but the gal I was talking to at the local office said to make an offer. She had seen sellers come down a lot. I offered $9,000 and they countered at $9,500. The van was brought down for me to look at on Monday. With the rain and runoff problems we have been having she wasn't able to get through the yard until today. I had to remind her that the van was 13 years old and would have some minor issues. Mostly stuff like some paint flaking on the roof that I can fix with a rattle can, broken cup holder,... Biggest thing is that it runs solid and all the conversion parts work.
I am dropping $4,000 down payment plus the TTL fees and financing $5,500. Her sources wouldn't touch it because of the age of the van. Put in an application on line to my credit union last night at 7 PM and had the approval at 8:57 this morning. I am going to try to get the paperwork done tomorrow after work. If I can't make the CU in time, I will be waiting for them to open the doors Monday.
As soon as it is her's, I will post some pics.
BTW, the Jeep is a '98 and I am letting one of the boys have it for $500, minus the lift. Going to CL that for $1,000 and negotiate. Best price I faound on line for the same set up was about $2,800 plus shipping.
