Donald "Duck" Dunn died.

I know many of the members will not know "Duck", but he was a bassist guitar player with his own unique style. He played at Stax in Memphis for years with some great singer and musicians. He died while on tour in Tokyo.

Like most of my generation, I knew of him through The Blues Brothers. RIP.

Sorry to hear of his death. I wasn't familiar with him as part of Booker T. & MG's. But now that you mention them, reminds me of "Green Onions"...one of my favorites.

I do remember this one. Reminds me of the Saturday night concerts/dances at The War Memorial Auditorium, and to this one I think "The Stroll" was the dance.

In high school, a bunch of my friends and I had a Blues Brothers cover band. We got asked to play everywhere. We had the act down pretty well from an entertainment standpoint - got dressed up in 70's gear, had great frontmen playing the Blues Brothers, copied scenes from the movie into the act. It was some of the most fun I'd ever had.

Of couse, playing guitar and being in this band (which included many hours of practice, watching for scenes in the movie that we could duplicate, etc) - we got introduced to all sorts of music that the guys in that band did before the Blues Brothers. That really was one great band that was put together (the real band, not us).

Booker T and the MGs was great. It amazes me how many times the theme from Green Onions gets played and no one knows what it is.

Duck will be missed.

Hate to hear that. He was a great bassist. I loved his part in Blues Brothers. Forgive the language, but my favorite quote was "We had a band powerful enough to turn goat p*** into gasoline."

Alan Rubin (Mr. Fabulous - trumpet in Blues Brothers) died a few years ago. Seems like we're losing a lot of greats lately.
