    R.I.P. Levon Helm

    After fighting a long drawn out battle with throat cancer, Levon Helm gave up the battle today. He will truly be missed by both you Southern Gentlemen and us Yankees here in the North East.

    For those of you who don't know the name, Levon was the drummer and vocalist in the group "The Band".
    Probably his best known song was "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down".
    I think I'll listen to it for a long while today.

    Levon, I'm really gonna miss you're Red Neck skinny butt. Maybe we'll get a chance to get drunk together.

      Haven't listened to The Band in ages. I'll have to take a little trip over to You Tube and spend a little time listening to yet another great one who has passed.

          If Levon did the vocals on "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down" his was an iconic voice. I can't tolerate listening to that song by any other vocalist but him. RIP, Levon!

              "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down" ,great song he and Clark will be missed. Loved those old days listening to the Band,Hendrix,C.C.R., Ah what has happened to music in America , Save a cold one for us Levon

                  Besides his work with The Band, his most recent album, "Electric Dirt", and before that, "Dirt Farmer", are, in my humble opinion, two of the best records of the last 10 years. My ride cymbal is at half-mast today.

                      That was him, as well as on "Up On Cripple Creek," "Ophelia," "The Weight," and others. "Ophelia" I can take or leave, but the other three are about as good as it gets.

                      Anyone who has never seen "The Last Waltz" should seek it out and watch it. The Band were arguably never better than in this, their farewell performance; and as rock music documentaries go, this one is top notch.
