    Great weekends with my oldest....

A few years back LOML was mowing the yard with a Honda HRM 215, forgot that the city cut down a tree in the parkway and hit the stump. You guessed it, bent the crank. Called and found it would cost more to fix than it was worth.

Jump ahead to 2012, my oldest bought a house, and needed a mower. I thought lets rebuild the Honda and he could have the Toro. What a blast, my son is into cars, but a small engine was an eye opener to us both. Took about three hours to break it down. Ordered parts from Boats.net, put it back together this past weekend and she purrs like she was brand new. Quality time changes as they get older.

Now if I could get LOML to start mowing again!!!!

Ooo - that sounds daunting, to say the least.

My neighbor has three sons, and a couple of cars, a couple of bikes, and a boat. And they are always tinkering with something or the other. There have been times I look in, and while it looks interesting, I always come back with nightmares of me opening up one of my engines and unable to put it back together!

I am pretty mechanically minded, and have stripped out bicycles completely and put them together, but somehow today's motorized vehicles - big and small - seem very intricate and complex. I envy you your quality time with your son. How did you, and he, learn to do this - just experimenting or did you take a course?

Things do change as they get older. Both my sons and I are into cars and trucks, and will all most likely get involved in the rebuild of my '65 C-10 when the time comes. My eldest also rides and we have disappeared for the day a few times just to enjoy the road together.

Neither are particularly interested in woodworking....

        My oldest

Went to junior college for automotive repair, then decided to go on and get his Bachelors. He loves working on cars, we just scaled it down for me. Ha Ha.
