I have total respect for those who are and have served in our armed forces, but something seems off on this pic. Either that is one amazing large tree or that bike is small for a young adult.

Either way, thanks to those who have given service to our country.

True picture, false story. Sorry Bob, no disrespect.

Also, we didn't get our feet into that war until 1917.

I don't mean to distract from the OP either, the image makes a great point.

I don't understand how the bike got up in the tree. Trees grow from the top, and out from the middle. Limbs don't get higher as a tree grows. I don't totally believe that linked story too much either. If the guy left his bike in the forest, he must have hung it up in the tree.

When I was surveying, there were a couple topo benchmarks of RR spikes in the side of a tree. When I asked the surveyor about them he said that trees grow from the top. The spike will stay at the same elevation for many years to come. Getting a level rod on the end of it might be a problem in the future though.

You guys are all correct. The bike is too small for an adult, trees do grow from the top, and our entry into WWI was 1917, not 1914.

Still, the thought is worth remembering.

+1. Bob, thanks for the post. I don't care how you came by it, but the message is moving. I find the interest is in the message posted not whether it's true or not, or whether it's been photoshopped...I wouldn't waste my time doing any research. Trying to find errors instead of addressing the message is counterproductive IMO.

                It's pretty neat nonetheless!

I'm not really sure why some people feel the need to embellish things that are interesting with bogus stories. (Not anyone's fault here.) A pic of a tree from 19XX that had grown around a bicycle is interesting. If the story were true that would make it more interesting.

But IMO, making a "remember our veterans" poster-type message with a bogus story seems disrespectful to those that have served and sacrificed. There are plenty of images and brief stories that could be used for the purpose of reminding the reader of the sacrifices made by our military personnel. I'm very appreciative of their service.

I find it stirring, despite being false! Thanks for posting it :-)
And thanks to all those who have served.
