When I order something online, I realize that I am always making a trade off. If I want a good on-line price I am willing to sacrifice a little time to receive the item. If I need it the next day, I'll buy it retail locally.

In this case, perhaps Amazon batch-processed the vendor orders at the end of the day which would mean the order would not be processed by the vendor until the next day (or even the day after). Most companies have a UPS pickup once a day--could be early or late. The driver then goes around and picks up other freight on his route. The freight is then sorted and routed at the UPS warehouse and the guy that comes to work at 11 PM finally enters the tracking information on the computer and is time stamped at that time, not when the driver pulls away from the truck dock. Ordering the item one day and having it out the door the next day is good service in my eyes.

Sometimes I question the routing of a UPS shipment, but in the end I still have to give them credit for knowing how to move a package from point A to point B the most economical and the quickest way possible considering all the other packages they have on the truck. Unlike the post office, they are still making a profit.

I'm another very satisfied Amazon Prime member, but I also will do my best to find products that are either sold by or filled by Amazon themselves.

I personally do not have very good luck with the speed of UPS ground deliveries. Something coming by Truck from L.A. will almost never take less than 7 days by UPS ground, but usually is on my step in 4 via FedEx ground. Likewise, items shipping from Chicago are often next-day and always 2 day delivery via FedEx, and most often 4 days via UPS. Both seem equally reliable/speedy on 1-2 day service.

I have read of others seeing exactly the opposite behavior so maybe that's a wash depending on exactly where you live.
