For me - many "incidents" but few kickbacks where things go flying. I hope that I don't get careless but I haven't had one or even an "incident" in three or four years. And I have been using my TS quite a bit since I have been home too.

What I am doing is this: Think the cut through clearly. At the point of feeding, My concentration is far more an where my hands are, very much alert as to the hand pressure forward and downward on the feed towards the blade, acute watching for raising of the back side of the cut and feeling for any bind or back pressure. I say this because I have been cutting this morning and went through this automatically.

Since the thread a few weeks ago as to the "causes" of kickback I make myself think of what I am thinking as I feed a board, either cross cut or rip. I am very much aware of how much pressure I am putting in which direction and what would happen if the board flipped up and shot back - where would my hand go if the forward pressure were released.

I used a push shoe earlier today and was totally aware of the pressure and directions of my hands if my hands slipped off the push shoe. Would the pressure take them into the blade?

I hope I don't stop thinking this way.

I have had 2 in about 9 yrs. The first was about 6 yrs ago. I ripped a small piece off some pegboard but didn't move it out of the way. When I turned the saw off, it kicked back and hit me in the stomach. Luckly, if only left a big bruise.

Last one was a week ago. For whatever reason, I was pushing a piece of 1/4" ply with my left hand. As I got to the end, I had this feeling that something was wrong. About that time, the kickback hit my left hand. Had to go to 2 emergency rooms in order to find one that had a ring cutter that could cut my wedding ring off. The ring may have prevented a more serious injury. I have a small fracture on my ring finger next to the knuckle. I must have pushed it slightly to the left at the end of the cut to cause the kickback.

I had a kickback some years ago launched a small piece of wood over 20' leaving a 1/4" gouge in the drywall. Since then no kickbacks per se since I use a sled for small things, but I did have a nasty throwback today. I was ripping 1/8" thickness off of a 1x3 piece of red oak. Since I don't have a bandsaw I was trying to make use of all the wood and stupidly was splitting a piece that was about 3/8" wide. I was lucky, minor palm injury, just sore, I was standing off to the side using my pushstick, but man was that loud! I was wearing earplugs and it was still loud!!

Here are some pics. You can tell, the end of the piece start to tilt and got snagged by the teeth. The saw kept going and just snagged one piece and slammed it sideways snapping it into a bunch of pieces before throwing them backwards.

Wow! Time sure flies. Glad it didn't become too much of a problem for you.
