I was in Lowes today and wanted a sheet of 3/4 mdf and a sheet of 1/2 MDF.
They didn't have any 1/2 but I did spot 2 sheets of 5/8 on a dolly that had cobwebs and had some nicks on the edges and a few surface scratches. And one side of each sheet was Lowes gray - a thin layer of paint, so it looked.
When I asked a fellow, he said "Oh, that is not for sale. It is some left over Lowes display MDF. But it has been back in a corner for a long time."
Me: "Interested in selling it?"
Him: "Let me check, follow me to the front."
At the front, the assistant manager was busy and asked me to wait a minute. But I waited about 10 minutes. He apologized for the wait and then said: "That is junk to us and we were going to throw it away. Just take it!"
Yippee! They even helped me load it!
I did buy one 3/4 sheet, but the two free 5/8" 4X8 will certainly go a long way in making some projects needed to get my shop operational.
