    Hi everyone

I know I haven't been here for quite a while, but here I am (for better or worse ).

Last spring, I decided to take charge in a fundraising event for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. My involvement was much more time consuming than I could have imagined, taking a lot of time over about a 4 month period.

John Hunter (one of our members) became my go-to guy for a local woodworking club. He took care of me very well, and I attended 2 meetings, trying to get donations for the hospital (either monetary or through time spent in the shop, making donated items). This was a big success.

I won't go into all the details of the fundraising, but I knew of a gift shoppe that had gone out of business, so I contacted them. The entire stock was donated for our cause, as well as a storefront to house our sale of donated items. This was absolutely huge in our ability to raise whatever money we could. With a little help from a few other people, we were able to raise almost $4500.00 for St. Jude's. That wasn't much when you consider the amount of work involved, but it was satisfying to know that we helped.

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

Congrats, Ed, on your involvement. I went to school in Memphis in the late 70's and knew a number of people who worked at St. Jude's as doctors, nurses, or researchers. I know of no better cause than St. Jude's. I assume that it is still being run today the way it was back then.

I don't know what you mean by "not much"... $4500 is a lot of money! Great job Ed!
