An acquaintance recently argued that we need DST for the farmers -- because the extra hour of sunlight allows the crops to grow better in the summer.

When DST first arrived one woman wrote to the local paper that it should be outlawed because the extra hour of daylight would burn her grass.

Personally, I think she was burning grass, just not on her lawn.

We don't have to reset our clocks in Hawaii. We just have to be aware of the time when making calls to the other 49 states. 2 hrs. on the west coast & 5 hrs. difference on the east coast.

You can blame Thomas Savery and James Watt.
Savery invented the first steam engine, Watt invented the first reliable steam engine.

Without those we wouldn't have railroads who are the ones that instituted time schedules.

Without time schedules the population went to bed when it was too dark to work and got up and about early. Schools started when it was light enough to see.

See what all these new fangled gadgets and gewgaws have gotten us?
