Good for the FHP. My brother used to be on the Dade County force and probably would have been ticked off about this, but there's no excuse for doing 120. Forget about "professional courtesy". The Miami cop was being reckless, stupid and arrogant.
"professional courtesy"! that type of thing is INFURIATING to everyday citizens like myself. the law is the law. it is supposed to apply to EVERYONE! cops who think the rules are made for everyone else are the reason i have absolutely no respect for cops anywhere. although, that arresting officer showed the kind of responsibility of purpose that all police officers are supposed to exhibit but precious few actually do.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

+1 (Content edited to show the parts that I agree with.)

If the driving was indeed reckless I would have arrested him. In my jurisdiction "Reckless Driving" is an arrest offense, no citation. Maybe different in Florida. Plus, this is all from a newspaper story, who knows what really transpired.
As an officer I always had the discretion to either issue a citation or a warning when making traffic stops. My ratio was probably three warnings for each citation issued. It all depended on which option I thought would do the most good.
That said, people could always talk themselves into a citation, very few could talk themselves out of a citation. The decision was based on many considerations, time of day, amount of traffic, was other traffic interfered with or endangered, school zone, residential area, freeway, etc.
I never felt I was pushed to make the government any money, I tried to motivated by what action would result in a driver operating in a safer manner.
As a cop I got a ticket or two, one from a brother officer. I'd really earned it, the wrecked patrol car was solid proof of my screw up. I also skated by more than once. No one ever said life was supposed to be fair. We all have equal opportunity to screw up.
A man without a shillelagh, is a man without an expidient.
