      That is pretty cool way to drill a square hole. Even after seeing it in slow motion i had to go back and pause it on the diagram at the beginning and stare at it for a little while to figure out what was happening.

      How long before woodworking mortisers based on this design become available for home woodworkers?

            That's an interesting bit, wonder if the geometry would work in a router. Common question is how to make square dog holes in a workbech and the answer is always to drill/route them and use a chisel to square them up. The shank on that would have to be changed obviously, gonna as the guys at Whiteside what they think.

              Roy Underhill has shown a mortiser that uses the same concept but his was operated by hand.
