I know at least one old soldier is going to have a lot of time on his hands shortly, but most of you will also enjoy an excellent book on the lives and times of the people who broke the German wartime codes. My wife picked up a (paper) copy while we were in Oxford (UK) earlier this month and I'm just about finished with it.

Any of you who are Anglophiles might also enjoy a book that describes the slow decline of England's landowning class at the end of the 19th century through the eyes of the Arkwright family. It turns out some of my wife's forebears were tenants of this particular landowner and on our trip to the UK last year, we stayed in the same 16th century farmhouse occupied by her great (great?) grandfather, which has since become a bed and breakfast.

That's a very cool story. Sounds like a great trip to the past. Did you take any pictures?

Mike, I'll post a few photos this evening. I think I put up a few last year to show how the floors were uneven and the walls and beams not necessarily plumb. Apparently any improvements are quite a challenge for modern carpenters.
