    Made in the USA

Modern Marvels on History Channel is doing a show on products still manufactured in the USA. 7:00 PM CDT tonight.

Thanks for the heads up. I used to watch Made in America with John Ratzenberger when the show was on. It was pretty good.

Rather disappointing. Their list consisted of 'how it's made' for:

New Balance athletic shoes - 25% made in USA. (Model 993).
            Segway
            Ling Ling Potstickers
            K'NEX toys.
            US Flags

The low percentage of parts and or labor of products shown in Made in the USA didn't surprise me. Using the Made In The USA as advertising is misleading.

The segment on the Segway was very interesting.

ABC has been running bits on made in the USA. They have a site with construction materials listed:

It all depends on what you're in the market for. Steam turbines, gas turbines and jet engines are still made here, and in fact the US dominates in those segments (GE, Pratt &
Whitney). Those are high dollar, high value items.

Apparently wind turbines destined for US wind sites are also made here because they cost so much to ship.

How about commercial and private airplanes, where the US also dominates.

Stuffed animals, toys and other low value items are another matter. Which suggests if you want a job in manufacturing, better start boning up on your math.

I'm not sure how well this link to an article in today's New York Times will work, but it tells the story better than I ever could:

Interesting store. According to their site, to be considered for sale in the store or website a product must be 100% USA produced from USA raw materials down to includung the packaging.
