Nice link, Bob! Shall lurk a bit over there too. Thanks.

True, Loring - SATA is much faster. But I am not planning to use any of my other HDD from 2003 : just the SSD one that I bought last year, which is Sata.

I think what you are planning will work out very well. Use the SSD as the boot drive and the 1.5T as the secondary. Before you finish everything, just hook up the old 300g drive, boot up and move what you need to the 1.5. (maybe woodworking project pics... lol)

Windows will probably ask you to re-register, but that is easy, just click the do it online button. I have 2 500g drives with win7 64b on both of them, one for gaming, other for working. (insures that I can recover from crashes easily)

I doubt you will need more than 8g memory anytime soon, just like the 2 slots should be enough - one for video card, other for whatever.

BTW, have 2 laptops, 2 desktops in household (I'm the IT guy) and have been building my own systems since the old 486 pc's.

When it comes to pc's, I know my stuff.... woodworking, all of ya'll are the experts! I just try to NOT remove fingers.... lol
