    The Best Pet

Many of our members have pets. Some prefer dogs, some prefer cats. Then there are those that like snakes, iguanas, turtles, birds, and fish, etc. Proper care varies according to the pet, but may include, but not limited to... buying the pet, obtaining the correct food, feeding daily, providing an environment, visits to the Vet, licensing, providing sleeping areas, allowing for bathroom breaks and a place to perform that function, certain toys, treats, cleaning up after, grooming, a lifetime of expense, and dealing with the anxiety of their death.

The perfect pet may very well be a stuffed animal.

    Consider the advantages.

There is only an initial expense (unless it's a gift).

You have a pick of a variety of breeds.

You need not qualify as a fitting owner (you don't need to know squat).

    They are sold everywhere.

You can get the size you want. If you decide to go larger or smaller, just throw it away (or give it away and buy another).

You don't have to feed it.

It doesn't throw up or poop on the floor.

If it gets dirty, throw in the washer.

    No trips to the Vet.

    No licenses.

    You can take it anywhere.

You can discipline it any way you want, and only get talked about.

You don't have to walk it.

It will never bite or scratch you (on their own) but you can make them do that.

It always have the same expression (unless you've re-arranged its face).

They suffer no pain, like if you ripped its arm out (by accident of course).

You can carry it any way you want.

No worries about fleas or ticks (but you may have to dust it occasionally).

They live forever (or until they fall apart), and even then you can keep them around.

They need no toys to play with.

They are very quiet (depending on your pet).

    They are indifferent to guests.

They need no training, but you can still go through the steps to keep you busy.

You can have your "dream" pet, like a lion, tiger, or even a camel if you wish.

You can finally join a "stuffed animal club".

Pet rocks had even less maintenance. No need to do anything but dust it.

The reason most people fall in love with their pets is the unconditional love that they give to you.
Not a lot of that coming from something stuffed in China.
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

That's probably true Herb. But, I've had cats that could care less about me until it was time for the food.

We have one that we think is best....12lb. female toy poodle! She is a house dog, been spayed and has an electronic pellet(tracking device) in her neck
under the skin for protection/ recovery if something happens to her.

She is my pride and joy....and I tell her all the time that "she is daddy's baby,
and I wouldn't take a bag of gold quarters for her". She likes that, and is always
giving daddy those puppy kisses! Hands down...nothing better than a loyal,
loving dog, they give their all!

I have to go along with EZZLOCK. We have twin sister American Standard cats ( the ones with black patterns on a gray background.) True they have minds of their own and can be very aloof but, they never come in without saying hello with a soft meow no matter how many times during the day. One is a real "tiger" and the other one is a couch potato who wants no more than to be held and petted. The "tiger" one I call my shop-cat, she spends hours with me in the shop, lying on the work bench and just watching me work. No machinery noise bothers her but I do have to stop now and then to fuss with her. A charmer!

A dog that is treated well and loved will love it's master more than they love themselves. We have one such Min Pin. We also have a beautiful black cat that loves us conditionally......and that condition is that we know he is the owner of the house and all of the property!

Dogs have masters;cats have staff! I just buried my cat after 19 years of serving him.
Better companion than my wife was. Buried her also last year.

                  Luteman,

Very sorry to hear of your losses.

                  ******

                  My pet was a Beagle,

When I was kid, we had a dog of one kind or another over the years. I can't say that any of us appreciated them in the manner that we should have. For me, I guess I was just too young.

But when I was 14, my Dad let me have a Beagle pup. The neighbor's Beagle had a litter of four, two females and two males. He sold the two females for good money and he kept the very active male for his own and would train it as a hunter. But he claimed the sluggish, sleepy little guy that he gave me wasn't going to fetch anything of value and therefore I could have him.

Only another pet owner could ever understand how much I valued "Corky". We were buddies and he'd go everywhere with me and we'd roam the woods and fields together, do my paper route together, go camping, etc. It so saddened me when he died that I could never bring myself to replacing him. Some friends just can't be replaced and I still fondly remember our many adventures together and there's so many "stories" that I could probably write a book.

BTW, he was a natural hunter that could run rabbits all day long. So much so that the neighbor wanted to trade his dog for mine. NO DICE! He once ran a rabbit right out into the middle of a country road for me (paper route) and I caught him in my paper bag.... no kiddin'.
