    ROT Rally

Properly, the Republic of Texas Bike Rally, officially kicked off today. There are expected to be between 40,000 and 50,000 bikers in Austin over the 4 day event. Full access to the grounds and all shows for the 4 days is $70. I don't have the time, money, or inclination to attend but there are a lot of smaller spin-off things around town.

Cowboy Harley had a sort of kick of party from 4 PM to 9 PM today. Besides the food and beverage vendors, there was a DJ on one end and a remote radio broadcast on the other. There was also a bikini bike wash going to benefit Biker's Against Child Abuse. At $75 it was a bit steep for me but it was a lot of fun to watch. The couple of hours I was there the girls stayed busy.

They also had 2011 calenders of the girls for sale with that money going to the Wounded Warroir Fund. Logic told me repeatedly, athough a bit less forcefully each time, that $15 was too much to pay for a calender with only 7 months remaining. In the end, my resolve and resistance were overcome by a 'salesman' with one (Two?) of the most compelling pitches I have ever run across. Besides, it's for a good cause...RIGHT?

My son just took over payments on a 750 honda Shadow and I picked up a Freedom Bell for his bike.

Isn't it funny how that cuts one way when you don't have kids and another way as soon as the first one arrives? Strangely enough, staying well covered will drive the boys crazier than showing a lot. That's what my mother used to point out and she's right!

Is she really? Of course being married for 37 years, I didn't really pay much attention to her.....

Paul, I wasn't blessed with a daughter but I have a 13 year old, blue-eyed, blonde granddaughter for whom I keep the scatter gun loaded!

Wait, Pappy was in that picture???

Jack, you're right—the imagination is a powerful thing, especially if you're a 15 year old boy!

Watching the freshmen boys trying to hit on the senior girls in my classroom is an endless source of amusement.
