    Nasal Irrigation

Saw this video http://thewoodwhisperer.com/nasal-irrigation/ on thewoodwhisperer.com and was curious about it. Anyone use this or similar product? If so, how often do you use it, does it hurt, and is it safe for prolong use?

I have used one hit and miss for the last couple of years. I only use it during allergy season. Which is in my case is spring and early summer. It helps loosen up anything which has built up in the nasal passages and flush them out. It takes a little getting used to as the sensation is a little bit unnatural and the salt you mix with the water is a little irritating at first. After you use it a few times, it becomes more comfortable.

It is effective to a certain point, I still need to use allergy meds, but this helps especially in the morning when I wake up.

As far as long term use. I would think since it is salt water and is just passing through the nasal cavity as a rinse, there shouldn't be any problems.

I've been using a Neti Pot for about five years to help manage chronic rhinitus and allergies.

It doesn't hurt and it's easy to use. And the grandkids think it's hilarious!

Yeah it doesn't hurt, but it feels pretty strange. The first time I used the neti pot I instantly recalled getting roughed up and rolled by a wave at the beach -- probably because that's the only time I've ever had salt water in my sinuses. But you get used to it pretty quickly and it's really not so bad at all -- I think it's more psychological... Every fiber of your brain is screaming, "Noooo! What are you DOING pouring salt water into the thing I use to BREATHE?!?"

The kids do get a kick out of it, and it's a little strange to have a giggling audience when you're trying to do it.

I've found it doesn't work so well if I actually have a bad cold -- sometimes the water doesn't even get through, or sometimes it even leaks into my throat.

Plus 1 on the feeling strange! It does seem to help when the pollen levels are high.

Count me in, although I've been using the squeeze bottle. Works at times, depending on how bad my sinuses are.
            It's also a heck of a mess.

My Uncle who is an allergist gives Neti pots to his patients. He said the
company actually gives the pots away for free and you pay for the saline
solution. So his patients don't have to pay for solution packets, he gives them
a recipe for the solution so they can make it themselves. He says it works
              well.
