The VA announced that it now presumes veterans that served on Korea's DMZ between April 1, 1968 and August 31, 1971 were exposed to Agent Orange. Previously the cutoff date was July 1969.
New U.S. Army rules now define more specifically what constitutes award of the Purple Heart for battlefield concussions, also known as "mild traumatic brain injury". In the past military doctors or commanders were left to decide if a concussion warranted a Purple Heart, and guidelines were vague. The USMC may have already adopted a similar change.
Soldiers that have been denied Purple Hearts can request a review of their case.
