    Vigil Honor

This morning I have returned from my Vigil. My fellow Arrowmen thought me worthy of their highest honor. My vigil name is Wowoatam which means Skillful one.

For those of you not quite understanding what I am writing about I am a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honors society. I was elected and became a member as a youth 31 years ago. The Vigil honor is bestowed on less than 2% of Arrowmen. It is not something that a person sets out to earn like our rank, other advancement awards, or adult leader training knots. It is given to recognize exceptional service beyond immediate responsibilities to Scouting and/or the Order of the Arrow.

Congratulations! It is special; enjoy this honor and keep doing what you are doing above and beyond normal expected duties. People notice others who give of themselves!

Congratulations, I'm sure you deserved the honor. You must have given much back to scouting to deserve it.

I was tapped out quite a few years ago. I never did get very involved in the OA though. Regretfully, I lost intrest in scouting a few years later. My boys wouldn't have anything to do with scouts. They have no idea what they missed out on.

Congratulations, Mark! I know what an honor it is. I kept very little from my days as a adult Scouter, but my sash is among them.

Congrats. I went through Ordeal in HS as either a Star or Life. I have been encouraged to go for Brotherhood, but I wasn't really active in OA as a Scout and forgot everything. I do have the OA handbook, but since I've taken a break this year from being a leader, I haven't touched it yet.

On a side note, my younger son (9 year old Autistic) completed his Bear rank in Cubs just a little over a week ago. It's quite an accomplishment, since we literally missed 1/2 of the meetings since Sept., in addition to him transferring to another Pack due to our family schedule. He's looking forward to Webelos, and I hope he continues to Boy Scouts. Scouting is pretty much his favorite activity. Our older son earned his Arrow of Light and isn't really interested in Boy Scouts. He's so involved with karate that he is busy 4 nights a week...no time for anything else. He should get his Black Belt in November or so.

Sorry about rambling...gotta brag on the boys any chance I get.
