If you haven't had periodontal surgery, describing what it feels like is difficult. First the gums are sliced and lifted up so the jaw bone is exposed. Picture a hammerdrill with a rotary rasp grinding away at the bone.
For the manual work, a similar procedure would be if you drilled a large hole, like 3/4" in solid granite. Then decided you wanted to make it a square hole. So, you use a rasp like this with both hands to pare out the hole. The sounds will likely be the same.
About halfway through your skull you find out that the novacaine did not deaden the area completely. So, in lieu of sounding like a complainer, you bear the torture. I mean for what it costs you want to get your money's worth...right?
Makes me think of the game "Would you rather". That's the game where you're given two choices for something. Like would you rather get a pencil shoved in your eye, or, having your tongue yanked completely out of your mouth. That's a tough one. I'm thinkin' now that the memory will last a lot longer than the pain.
