    Finally, a good day off.

Seems like everything has been a bit on the sour side lately. The block on my truck cracked during a recent freeze so the week I had scheduled off to get some house projects done was spent preping and dropping in a low mileage used motor. My son over torqued and snapped a bolt on the torque converter. Easiest solution was to drop the tranny. I did get a new converter at near wholesale price from a shop on my route. Got it in Sunday and when I started it up it vibrates, especially in reverse. Also doesn't want to idle right. The solution is to unbolt the converter, loosen everything else, back it out a bit, and try to realign everything.

I have been driving the wife's Jeep since the Harley was in bad need of a rear tire. It was almost bald and had a slow leak. Had my bud order a tire Friday. When UPS delivered the order yesterday everything was there except the 2 tires he had ordered. They were on the packing list but UPS managed to lose them.

Got up this morning and built a quick wheel chock that I bolted to a piece of heavy square tubing to hold the bike upright. Worked llike a charm! I got the tire off, cleaned it up and took it to the shop about 4:00 this afternoon. UPS was still there and had delivered the missing tires. Since I was in there and the rear brake pads were getting thin, I decided to replace them. While I was going to the Harley dealer to pick up fresh brake pads, Glenn mounted and balanced the tire. I got home about 6:30 and the reassembly went smooth all the way. Fired her up for a test ride about 7:30. The new tire makes a world of difference in the handling of the bike.

Forecast is for lows in the 50's and 60's with highs in the upper 80's. First chance of rain over 10% is next Tuesday and again on Thursday.

To qoute a Harley ad slogan from a couple of years ago, "SCREW IT, LET'S RIDE!"

There are those times when all seems to go kapooey. I've only had a few bikes that had a center stand, or ones I left the stand on. Changing rear tires was simple with just a floor jack. Leave the kick stand down, and put a floor jack under the frame and pump up. The bike goes up with the front tire (leave turned), kickstand, and jack as the points.

That rear tire gets kinda flat across the tread, A new tire is round, and makes a heap of a difference in handling.

Interesting idea but, considering the weight and how far a Harley leans on the kick stand, I dont think I will try it.
