Gustav Stickley and the American Arts & Crafts Movement

I heard on the news a few days ago that the Dallas Museum of Art is running the Gustav Stickley and the American Arts & Crafts Movement exhibit until May 8th. I might have to get over there to see it.

That should be very interesting. If it was fairly local for me, I would go for sure.

        Erik,

That's great news for you, for me, in NY, it sucks. When you do go, could you find out if it will be in the New York area.

Many thanks and have a ball

For those in the NJ area....

I haven't been there but there is the Stickley Museum in Morris Plains, NJ. on Rt 10. No children allowed, I guess they don't want the children touching or breaking anything.

          here is the link:

              Do-It-Yourself Stickley

From the Dallas museum website, I thought this was interesting:

we invite you to take up Stickley’s challenge and create pieces inspired by his designs. We would like you to document your process through photographs or videos and send them to us.

They have links to several Stickley designs from his The Craftsman magazine - drawings & dimensions only, there's no discussion of technique.

Note: The complete digital archive along with many other old arts/design publications can be found here. A nice time waster...

Stickley Log House at Craftsman Farms, Morris Plains NJ

I just wanted to correct the notion that children are not welcome to visit the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms. School tours, Girl Scout and Boy Scout workshops, Family days, and children's Detective Tours are enjoyed by more than 2,000 children each year. Check out the website ww.stickleymuseum.org or the Stickley Museum Facebook page to find out more.

                  my bad...

I was thinking of going with my young children and either I read it in a news article or a co-worker who went there stated that children were not allowed...... I should have browsed the Museum website.

Well, I never made it over to Dallas for the exhibit. I really wanted to go, but I just couldn't bring myself to get over there when I had a little free time.

It's going to be in San Diego June 18, 2011 Through September 11, 2011
