    Shop Tip About Oil Changing

A friend gave me a "Form-A-Funnel" I've gotta say it's the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I've got several machines that need oil changes, like automobiles, compressors, pressure cleaner, generators, lawn mowers, and edger.

I have no idea where the engineers came up with the frame design with an oil drain that is hard to get to, or drains directly over other parts of the machine or the frame. Oil gets spilled. This gadget forms to fit any opening and doesn't leak, and gets the drain oil away from the machine.

Just thought I would rave about something today. BTW, I'm not connected with this product in any way, or receive any benefits from mentioning it.

At first I thought big deal, flex plastic. After watching the video a few minutes I can see how this would come in very handy.

That's pretty slick. My lawn tractor has a drain plug that is inconveniently located - too close to a frame rail to get a traditional funnel close to, and there isn't enough room in the area under the drain to rest an oil pan. I usually rig up something to try to minimize the mess, but no matter what I do changing the oil is pretty messy. Because of this, I probably don't change the oil in the tractor as often as I should.

Same principle as a French Curve, basically lead encased in flexible rubber.

Neat idea, but I find it kinda pricey at $25. Maybe I'm just cheap:-)

            Ah,

But it's what you do (now be honest) with the old oil that counts.

While we're on the topic- It was suggested to me earlier in the year to use a gallon size ziploc bag when removing the oil filter-

All those years of oil down my arm and all over the floor- why the heck hadn't I thought of that before???

Biggest tip for changing oil I keep remembering after it is too late...let the oil cool from operating temperature before you take out the plug.
