Just wanted to say HI again!

Well it has been awhile, most of you probably dont remember me, but a few years back (6 or so?) I was around here alot. Got sort of side tracked by life, had to give up woodworking due to an allergy to wood products. Still enjoyed this place but then went back to work and just didnt have the time.

Alot has happened since then. Have moved to new house, have a little bit of land and a million questions and kept finding myself saying "Hmm I bet the guys at BT3 Central would have an opinion about how to fix that, which one of those to buy etc..." So I lurked for a little bit and thought I'd surface so I could start bugging you all and asking questions.

I have a few projects I would like to do too, might even start a little woodworking again. I can always take some Benadryl or just itch like **** right?

Anyway good to see some familiar faces on here and the site looks great.

Welcome back SillyGoose. Is it contact allergies or from the dust? You could go neanderthal or just improve/get beter dust collection if its the latter.

Yes, better dust collection could help, I was at the limit of space and money before at my other house. I do have an opportunity to expand a little bit here but I dont know if I want to invest too much into the whole works because I have doubts if I will be able to do much and for how long. Some days I have a reaction if I just touch too many cardboard boxes at work.

But there is just something about wood that I cant stay away from, It is just too beautiful to work with and unique. Without fail, around this time of year I want to do a few small projects for gifts. I also crochet and sew, and those make nice gifts too... but they are not wood, and honestly just dont give me the same satisfaction. Plus their forums are not nearly as cool

Hey, welcome back! I remember you said you suffered from allergies. I hope you find a way to cope with it.

Well howdy Sillygoose! Times sure have changed while you have been away. Thomas Jefferson is growing fast. Chat is not anything like the old days. Some of your old pals still log in on a regular basis, some have moved on. I'm sure you will find many old friends here.

              Glad to hear from you!

I'm not an allergist, but I play one on TV...if it's just skin or nasal allergies that cause problems, taking a good non-sedating antihistamine like cetirizine (Zyrtec) or a leukotriene inhibitor like Singulair will probably take care of the problem.

If it's bad asthma or (worse) allergic pneumonitis ("woodworker's lung") then you should either invest in a first-class ventilation system and wear a powered ventilator at all times or find another hobby.

As always, check with your own doctor before making treatment decisions.

actually germdoc its not respiratory at all, if I touch unsealed wood products or dust I just get red and itchy raised hives all over, not only what body part touches it, they pop up anywhere... on my legs for instance , and they ITCH, and are on FIRE. It can last for an hour or so then goes away like nothing happened.

It can happen if I touch too much cardboard, brown paper bags, brown packing paper. I used to have reactions to construction paper in elementary school. I got sent home when my lips and eyes swelled up after making a christmas wreath in kindergarten. It is not the only thing I react to, I think I am just hyper sensitive to some things. It just sucks that it is wood Glad it's not chocolate
