I believe he's got a traveling collection at the Woodworking in America show. I saw some info in another article not too long ago, but I can't seem to find it now.ErikComment

That is tool porn for sure!
I had a neighbor in La Crosse who had thousands of handplanes. His entire basement was filled floor to ceiling with planes. The most expensive one he had was probably in the $10,000+ category.
He was the president of the Midwest Tool Collectors club for awhile. The problem with having this guy in your backyard (and another guy who ran an antique shop specializing in old tools) is that you could forget about finding great bargains at flea markets and auctions and the like anywhere nearby. These guys would get up early and drive hundreds of miles to find tools.Jeff

Just to think, one router and a handful of bits could replace the functionality of the entire plane collection of the museum.
Nothing wrong with collecting and using handplanes, but the three I have are tools; not jewelry. Hand Tools are great to slow down an unsafe operation or a final difficult tweak, but I have a hard enough time producing furniture/projects with the time I have to forgoe electrons.Comment
