    No longer a virgin

    Well,

After all these years of woodworking, I have now joined the club of "The Walking Injured".

Making a very narrow rip cut (splitter, no Shark Guard), and not using my usual GrrRipper, I was able to make the cut, but for some dumb a$$ reason I brought my left hand back directly across the spinning blade.

Luckily, I "only" clipped off the tip of my index finger and now have a perfect impression of a Freud "Fusion" blade tooth removed fropm the tip of my nail along with a dime sized chunk of skin.

Wrapped it up in a shop towel paper towel, and taped the paper to my finger with what else, but duct tape, and just shut it all down for the day.

I figured that one injury that day was more than enough.

I've done stupid things like running my hand over a non turning jointer head (those blades are sharp) and grabbing a new router bit the wrong way taking it out of the box (sharp too), but never cut myself on the table saw.

This was the perfect enactment of the saying "If it don't feel right, then don't do it". Sometimes I should really listen to what my head is saying.

    Down, but not out,

    Bruce

I was seriously hoping that somehow you were talking about sex!

Sorry to hear that. Guess it's time to take a deep breath and chill for a while.

Wow, now you need to film and produce a vid like you posted about drivers! Sorry for your pain and suffering; BTDT, well with a router bit anyway. Hope you heal fast.

Take a picture of the finger and post it in the shop where you will see it when you go in as a constant reminder. Heal fast.....

Bruce, sorry to hear about your injury. Heal up soon! I'll post a pic of the hole in my head if you'll post one of your finger!

Keep the hand elevated, take the OTC pain relievers, and watch for infection…

                        Oh, and get better soon!

Yeah, we all do stupid things, well maybe not stupid but at least unsafe (without thinking) things. Hope you get better soon without too much pain. Case in point, a month ago I was routing a profile and noticed some shavings along the in-feed fence. Without giving enough thought I took my middle finger to clear it out. The router had been shut off but was still spinning down. You guessed it, finger-router bit-still spinning-now less finger tip! Oh well, live and hopefully learn.

glad to hear that you are ok. could have been worse. the worst part about these injuries is that you know better, that was the harder part to get over when i shaved a tad bit off my thumb last year....
