    Potosi Brewery in Wisconsin

I had a chance to take a surprise detour on my way back to Madison from Iowa City on Sunday - to a little town called Potosi, on the Mississippi river in Wisconsin.

There's a brewery there that is run as a non-profit organization - with all profits benefiting the Potosi community and other communities where their beer is sold. Talking with one of the proprieters about the history of the brewery - how it started, its decline, its rebirth, and ultimate formation into a non-profit organization was fascinating. They have a phenomenal facility, museum, and beer garden - not to mention the fantastic community center constructed across the street. The community center was overflowing with traffic that day - a 'fund raiser' for a local individual who had some unexpected medical issues....what a caring community - that place was BUSY!

It was truly neat to see this place - I can recommend it, and I can also recommend their beer. Drink for a cause!

The OP did recommend it toward the end of his posting. They must have changed the recipe from what they bottled years ago cause that stuff back then was ....well.........not very good.

As the OP, I guess I need to say that their beer is GREAT. We tried the 'flight' while we were at the brewery - 6 small samples of each flavor. Each was very different and unique and are comparable or better than the typical range of brews from similar boutique brewers. Our first experience with Potosi beer was at the Harmony Bar in Madison - a popular spot.....

Potosi is doing a great job - better than most Madison based brewerys in my opinion. The 'non-profit' aspect of their operation was a complete surprise to me - and they will get my repeat business because of it. Their 'Snake Hollow' IPA is really good.
