I've done tricks like those on my mountain bike. Never on purpose and always with disastrous results!

Fun to watch. If I tried that there would be broken bones everywhere!

I saw that, too. The site has some great videos, just needs some kind of directory.

I like to have fun as much as the next guy, but I have to think that someday these kids are gonna look back on all the time and work it certainly must have taken to put that together, and wonder how much better off they would have been if they had applied those same resources to something more substantial and lasting, like maybe an education...

That's an assumption that they aren't educated. Could be that this project is part of a thesis, or a just for fun summer break from M.I.T.

Yes, it is. I'd bet the odds are with me on this one...

One of the 'kids' made a comment about "our mountain" making me think this is private land. How many other riders would pay to have access to a trail course like this one? These boys could be sitting on a gold mine.

If you think about the whole video, setting the jumps up, the quality of the camera work etc., I think these boys are as lot smarter than you might think.
In a day and age when people (and I use the term loosely) like that bunch from the Jersey Shore program are each getting paid $45,000 an episode to be pretend little gangsters, i don't really have a problem with this.

I went to college with a guy that is a professional snowboarder and another that was a sponsored mountain bike trials rider. A friend of mine is a professional road cyclist with a bachelor's degree and are many of his teammates are the same.

The snowboarder usually took a double load because He'd be gone all winter snowboarding around the world. In casual conversation with him he sounded like the guys in the video.

4 guys from BC ( that's British Columbia folks) one of which might be from Prince George???? I'll guess MIT is out. I'll bet they gave little thought to where the top soil that they used for trails will end up after a few rains.

Some Olympians become media darlings, and can parlay their brief "moments in the sun" into rewarding careers, but there are many others who find their post-Olympics options limited. Even those you cite in your rebuttal are pursuing careers based on their educations, not on their sports endeavors.

My point was not that the kids in the video were stupid. I never said that. What I did observe was that they would probably wish later on that they had put their resources into something with more lasting benefit, like an education. I have some similar regrets, myself. I'll bet you have, too. I did not say that they couldn't still get an education, either; only that what they were doing might be time that could have been better spent.

Yet somehow, now you've got me pictured as an Olympian hater?!? I really hate it when people put words in my mouth.

Not putting words in your mouth, but you were surmising that after a short video of guys participating in a sport that they are wasting their lives. I asked about Olympians because they also participate in amateur sport, really no different than the guys in the video, which requires a lot of time.

My point was just because they are great at riding bikes doesn't mean they aren't out getting an education, I know a few that do both. I'm still not sure how you could make the connection of great bike rider = not pursuing education or skill.
