... and thanks for all the fish ...

After 36 years and 1 month I announced my retirement from IBM today effective 7/31/2010.

Wow ... did I just type that?

I am looking forward to the change with a touch of trepidation along with great expectations ... it will mean a significant reduction in 'disposable' income but my wife and I have worked closely with a financial planner for over 12 years and feel confident we can adjust and are as prepared as can be hoped for.

It's been an interesting ride ... I've seen and had a hand in some incredible changes brought about by the introduction of computers and information technology into the mainstream of human society. I can't wait to see what happens next in that wide open frontier.

I expect to have significant more "shop time" now and look forward to that ...

Look out retirement ... here I come!!!

Congratulations, Bade! Extremely jealous with the amount of shop time you'll have and not having to deal with the rat race.

Congratulations on leaving I've Been Moved. Are you asking for a retirement towel?

Congrats on the retirement. Enjoy you have earened it. As far as shop time? You might find your self busier retired than working. The difference is. It is your choice. If you want, when you want and how you want, or maybe how LOML may want, but even that isn't so bad. I get up just as early but now I have a few cups of coffee and read the paper at my pace and I may shave and comb my what is left of my hair. But thats what baseball caps are for.

              Have fun and enjoy.

Congratulations, and kudos to you for being able to retire when you wanted to, instead of all of us poor schmucks who have been forcibly retired (or nearly so) by the economy...

Tell them you'll be a work from home, two days a week consultant. Used to work with a gentleman who tried to retire at least five times before management finally got the hint.

Congrats on pulling the plug. Only problem I found is that after the first month of being "free" is the mistake of wondering if its Saturday and is that why your not getting ready for work. NEXT, you'll be so busy that you will wonder how you ever had time to work for someone else! Enjoy!

Congratulations! I am so envious! If I could retire tomorrow I would have called in sick today. I have somewhere between 2 and 6 years left to go.

                          Enjoy!
