Anyone live on a River?

    The Etowah about 14 miles downstream near Euharlee from Lake Allatoona, Its not on stilts but is riverfront but 275 ft would be by the river in my book, How good a geese to eat?

      They explained it wrong. A better simple explaination is that a 100 year floodplain has a 1/100 chance to flood that year.

      FEMA has been redoing their floodmaps recently.

        The house I grew up in was 2 blocks from the Minnesota river in Mankato. In 1951 and 1965 the river ran through the house. My folks then moved to a new home in North Mankato and 4 blocks from the river which ended the problem. In changing their location they increased their elevation by more than 400 feet. My conclusion is; The distance above the river level is more important than distance from the river.

          ya, I would check with the county to see the flood plain map. So you will have some idea of how often & how much of your property will flood. If the area has been developed in recent years it will probably be more often & more of you property than indicated. Also near any river in Georgia, expect visiting water moccasins occasionally.
