Are you sure it's not dried blood on the blade?
Before I did anything I would get a definitive answer from those who know about these things. It may be more valuable uncleaned, but if the plan is to mount it on the wall you also want to make sure that whatever is touching it does not lead to marking or damaging the blade and scabbard.
