WISCONSIN!! this just in from the National Weather Service

It's rather big so I will just link to it. Note it's moving away from Minnesota, so I guess it's time for Minnesota to say, Sorry Wisconsin!

Be happy they aren't fruit flies or love bugs.

Bill, who's late you or the National Weather Service? That image is from last Saturday.

I just noticed a few last week--nothing dramatic. A few years ago they were so prevalent a downtown car dealer had to powerwash their garage doors just to be able to open them--the flies were 2" thick. Took a whole day to wash them off the new cars as well.

They're pretty innocuous otherwise, the fish are happy this time of year!

That's cool! I've never seen that many in the air. I saw a couple big spinner falls when I was fishing the snake below Yellowstone once. The trout were going nuts then too.

The first time I ever saw a big fly hatch was on Shoshone Lake in Yellowstone. I was out on the beach by myself and had just finished making my dinner. I saw a big brown cloud moving down the lake. I thought it was someone's illicit fire at first. (There was a burn ban on.) It was a huge tent wing caddis hatch. I just gave up trying to keep them out of my food. I just ate 'em like the fish were.

Never seen anything like it before or since. It was probably small compared to the one in the OP.

On our local river the Yakima we have an early June hatch of Western Green Drakes that are imitated with #8 grey Wulff's. I used to fish this hatch every year but have not in a few years due to less access than I once had. It was a sight to see with bugs that big and the big fish that it brought to the surface.
