So, what book do you suggest?

I'm looking at about a weeks hospital stay and need a little light reading. It doesn't have to be a comedy but, more or less a brainless story with a bit of info woven into the story for interest. I'm into The Fountainhead right now but I'm looking for some "healing" material. TIA!
    Blessings,

Sorry to hear about the hospital stay.

If you ever do any flyfishing you might enjoy some of the books by John Gierach.

Anything by Clive Cussler or if you're into motorcycles,
Life is a Road, the Soul is a Motorcycle by Daniel Meyer

or any other books by Meyer

+1 for anything Clive Cussler but the older Dirk Pitt series are the best.

"The Count of Monte Cristo" believe it or not is fairly light reading and easy to get caught up in.

If it won't hurt to laugh, anything by Bill Bryson. A humorous travel writer.

I am sure this is a little late to suggest but around here I like J.A. Jance. She writes two different book series. The Joanna Brady series and a J.P. Beaumont series. They are both good. If you like mysteries.

And then for amusement you could try Janet Evanovich, the Stephanie Plum series. That one is good. Its about a female bounty hunter who doesn't like to carry a gun and has quite a few things happen to her. It is pretty comical and entertaining.

Lee Child's series of books featuring Jack Reacher can be fairly gripping and addictive. My problem with them have been that I could not put down a book long enough to make it last a week! Take two from the library.

Also I would suggest Jim Butchers Dresdan Files.

It's non-fiction, but one of the best books I ever read is Rocket Boys (AKA October Sky) by Homer Hickham (sp?).

The book is so much better than the pathetic movie "version" they made. I know others love the movie, but I saw it after I read the book and hated it.

I think the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series by Larssen is pretty good--I've only read the first book. It doesn't quite live up to the hype, but it's better than most thrillers/crime novels.

Personally I LOVE the old Raymond Chandler novels. Get an anthology of those and that will keep you busy for a few weeks. The plots are convoluted but the characters and language is awesome.

I have The Talented Mr. Ripley on my reading list for the summer.

Also, here's a non-fiction entry: Elvis Presley 2-part biography by Peter Guralnick--great reading, like a Shakespearean tragedy. Also a new biography of Louis Armstrong (Pops) is great and absorbing reading.

For light reading that has some humor and mystery -
Robert Crais - The Elvis Cole series
Harlen Coben - Myron Bolitar series
