If your cell phone is locked or password protected, this will not help - they will not be able to access your contacts.

If you don't lock your cell phone, you should. It's no different than password protecting your computer accounts.

I think "ICE" a is good idea. Locking the phone won't help if the need is there.

Thanks to both of you for clearing that up. Had I actually read the linked article I think it would also have told me that the phone whould have to be in an unlocked state for the system to work. DOH!

What I am surprised about is that there have been several bogus claims made warning folks of impending doom if they use this system. I guess there are a bunch of dumb people out there.

The problem is, around here where we have a lot of immigrants from Central
and South America, ICE means a totally different thing:

That statement is so tempting, but I will resist with all my strength.

Yes, I've had this on my cell for years, not sure where I first heard it though.

"dire warnings' are usually started by idiots with a lot of spare time on their hands.
Like the one about gangs driving along at night with their lights out, and when someone flashes their brights at them, they hunt them down and kill them as part of a gang initiation.
Totally bogus, but people will swear up and down that they have seen news stories where this actually happened, it's so ingrained in their psyche.
