    iTunes Transfer Problem

LOML just got a new desktop. She is having a problem transferring playlists and contents from the old desktop to the new desktop?

She also can't download her iPod contents to iTunes on the new desktop. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I went through that and it was a real exercise in counter intuitive activity. I don't recall the exact process but it had to do with transfering the registration to the new machine. I did a bit of googling and that is my best recommendation.
Sorry I can't give a better answer, hopefully someone else will.

If she's going from a Mac to a Mac, she can use Migration Assistant to move all her stuff from one machine to another.

An alternative (if you have a spare HD that's big enough) is to make sure that the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" option in the preferences (under the Advanced tab) is checked, then do File:Organize Library. This will move all media files to the iTunes Media folder. This may take a while.

When that's finished, copy the iTunes folder (this contains the iTunes Library, Media folder, etc.) to the spare HD. On the new computer, copy the iTunes folder to the proper spot on the computer's hard drive, then fire up iTunes. iTunes will probably ask where the Library file is. Navigate to the folder you just copied, then press OK.

You might have to go to Preferences and set the "iTunes Media folder location" to wherever the copied iTunes folder is.

Restart iTunes. If all your playlists are still gone, you may have to rebuild the Library file. The Help menu will have instructions on how to do this. This is a pretty rare problem, though.

Hope all this helps—remember, free advice (especially from me) is worth what you pay for it!

Thanks for the help. I passed it on to my wife, and she's workin' on it.

That's a good link, thanks. She is wading through it.
