I have no credit to do what I need or want to do at the moment. If I can't pay cash, I do without. I have a few acres paid for, a private RE contract on two other places and no payments other than monthly. I don't get a lot done, but I don't suffer when things are tight for others, because I live without all the time. I have a lot of friends who do not do things my way and they are no happier than I am. I just don't have the urge to waste big money, keep big money, or pretend I am something I am not. "Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want." And believe it or not, things really pile up when you don't care. Without CC's I can go fishing with any bait I can catch and enjoy knowing that I won't have to pay for it tomorrow. Keep after it, it just gets better.
P.S. Rib-eye steak is better than prime rib in my book.

Congrats on getting your accounts down. The only loan we currently have is our mortgage--which is plenty--although I'm probably going to have to take out a home-improvement loan sometime this year to pay for the reroofing job. I have half a dozen credit cards, at least, most of which I hardly ever use. The main card, though, we use a lot, and pay it off fully at the end of each month (it's automatically deducted from our bank account). Here in Japan, the credit card companies are currently in enough competition that you can pay off your cards fully and never hear a peep from them. Actually, there are three ways to keep from paying interest: pay fully at the end of the month, divide into two subsequent monthly payments, or pay at the next bonus time (July/December). I hate being in debt, and am trying to keep it that way. Unfortunately, we don't have much in savings, but we don't get any interest to speak of at the J banks, anyway, so I'd prefer not to pay interest on credit cards.

I have $50.00 in a savings account that pays $.01 a month interest and they send me a statement each month. It is really good for a laugh.

I should put on my fireproof suit.

April, I paid off my house. I owe a little under $400 on one card, that is interest free until September (will be paid off before), due to replacing some stolen tools (right before xmas ). I also have a $500 bill this month (paying Wensday), due to buying some tools for some projects to celebrate (yes, stupid).
I am currently (this month doesn't help) stashing money to replace my roof. I have no where near the savings I should or wish I did (it was ate through during a lawsuit several years back), but I am looking forward to building it.
Unfortunately, the two sets of people I generally know, are those who spend like they have money (bad examples to hang around), and those who DO have money to spend and don't really worry (don't have the money to hang around).
On a negative note, I am having to figure out who to put on the title for estate purposes, and beginning to think about funeral stuff (if I am lucky, I take after the side that dies around 65).
But on a positive note, the BEST nights sleep I ever had, was a few days after I paid the house off, when it started to settle in.

Congratulations, and know it can be done.

Dave Ramsey says that the grass even feels different after you pay off the house.

We do most purchases with American Express, and gather points. I heard a comedian say that success is when you've exceeded your credit limit.

                .

Also heard them say, they found out their ID had been stolen, when their credit limit improved.
