      Bruce Willis - Die Hard
      Paul Newman - The Sting
Yul Brynner - The Magnificent Seven
Lee Marvin - The Dirty Dozen
      Matt Damon - Jason Bourne
Robert De Niro - Ronin and Heat
      James Gandolfini - Tony Soprano

I can't imagine anyone else in the roles above, but my all-time favorite is Dennis Franz as Andy Sipowicz in NYPD Blue.

The movie about Jack Kevorkian, played by Al Pacino was amazing. Pacino looked, talked, and walked like Kevorkian.

Russell Crowe in Master and Commander

Would definitely follow his character into battle

Add Brad Pitt in Fight Club. I almost started my own fight club after that one

One role switch I found amazing was Clint Eastwood, the afore mentioned "Cop & Cowboy" into the smooth dude in The Bridges of Madison County. My criteria far a good actor/actress is that you forget who they are and see them as the charter they are playing. Taylor and Burton could really do it well, unlike Tim Allen who is Tim the Tool Man Taylor, no mater what character he's playing.
