We bought a 50" LG Full 1080p plasma unit and the picture and sound continue to amaze me. I thought I wanted an LCD/LED until I compared them with the LG. LG has a new Infinia model that is 3-D ready and I notice that it is being produced in both LED and plasma so LG hasn't given up on the superior picture of the plasma.

After searching C/L and coming up empty, I decided to gho new. I had decided that if nothing turned up soon I was going to decide between a Samsung and a Panasonic plasma at Target, both at $799.99.

I went to check out a C/L ad in San Antonio yesterday. The deals were good, maybe too good. (52" Sony Bravia LCD for $800) Claim was a wholesale company but the 'stock' was 7 or 8 TV's in one side of a garage in a middle class neighborhood, nothing in boxes, and no paperwork with any of the sets. The whole deal smelled bad so I walked. I stopped a couple of blocks away and called JeffW so he could alert the right people in the SAPD.

After that I headed to Best Buy and found the same Panasonic I was considering at Target on sale for $699.99. They were out of stock but the San Marcos store showed to have 2. Called to have one put on hold and picked it up on the way home. I have to switch out one of my cable boxes for an HD unit and will set it up tonight. Until I can get a stand built, it will sit on the organ bench.

Jeff, if the company turns out to be legit, don't tell me. Knowing I walked away from that kind of deal would put me in therapy!

I agree with many here that Sony is top of the line. However, you pay through the nose for it... I like Samsung, but I've found a lot of off brand TVs that are excellent. The panels themselves are all made from one of 4 or 5 makers, the differences are teh electronics. But I bought a Sceptre TV from MicroCenter a year ago, and it was a fraction of the cost of the big brands, but just as good if not better in picture quality. So I'd suggest to find a deal, and verify with reviews if the diplay is any good. I think user ratings are far better than a Consumer Reports article. Especially since the market changes almost daily.

I would avoid Samsung if it was me. They have a known issue with the capacitors in the power supplies, yet the refuse to address it, and in a year or two you could be looking at a expensive decoration.

I second that on the Samsung. Right before flat panels started coming down, we bought a "slim fit" Samsung tube TV--a little thinner than regular tubes. It was an HDTV. Something blew in the power supply just after warranty. I searched, and it is a very common issue with Samsungs, and they refuse to acknoweldge it.

I will not buy another Samsung. Ever.

Yep. My girlfriend's phone charger has the same problem too. 3 years and she is on the last leg of her 3rd charger.
